New features, changes, and fixes in SteadyLink, newest first.

On this page

Changes to the SteadyLink dashboard, API, and developer tools, newest first. Package-level detail for the TypeScript SDK is in its reference.

October 2026#

Drives, bulk actions, and faster scanning, October 8#

  • Connect rclone in one command. Create an S3 key in Developers > S3 & rclone and paste the command it shows. The installer sets up rclone, can mount SteadyLink as a drive (S: on Windows), and can schedule backups. The drive starts at sign-in and restarts itself if it stops. See Connect rclone and github.com/SteadyLink-io/rclone-setup.
  • Readable bucket names over S3. Buckets now have S3 names like marketing and my-files instead of IDs. Mounted drives show the names you typed, and New folder at the top of a drive creates a bucket. Existing setups that use bucket IDs keep working.
  • Much faster deletes. Deleting a file takes a fraction of a second instead of about three, from the dashboard, the API, or a mounted drive. Deleting a folder now removes every file in it from delivery.
  • Bulk actions in Files. Select every file that matches your filters, not just one page, then delete, move, or change visibility in a few requests. Filter by bucket, folder, type, size, date, and visibility, show up to all files on one page, and move files between buckets without changing their links.
  • Faster malware scanning. Small files are usually scanned before the upload finishes, files we've already scanned aren't scanned again, and files up to 1 GB are supported. Large archives no longer get stuck retrying.
  • Redesigned emails. Every email uses a new layout that works across mail apps and in dark mode. New security emails tell you when two-step verification is turned on or off and when a recovery code is used. Alerts link straight to the file, and the daily summary now sends once a day as intended.
  • Two-step verification setup is now a short two-step flow in Settings > Security, with recovery codes you can copy or download.

Documentation, October 8#

  • New documentation at /docs, organized into guides, concepts, reference, and security, with search (Ctrl K), light and dark themes, and examples in curl, JavaScript, Python, and the CLI side by side.
  • New pages on stable links, the upload lifecycle, workspaces and roles, two-step verification, API key safety, and single sign-on.
  • Corrections to the previous docs: deleting a file's last revision deletes the file (it was described as not allowed), management API usage counts API-key requests only, and API keys with workspace:admin cannot manage members, invitations, or other keys.
  • Links to the old /docs/users/... and /docs/developers/... pages redirect to their new locations.

Developer tools, two-step verification, and S3, October 2#

  • S3-compatible API. Use rclone, restic, Cyberduck, the AWS CLI, and other S3 tools with your buckets through per-person app keys that can be read-only or limited to one bucket. See S3-compatible API.
  • Two-step verification. Turn on authenticator app codes in Settings > Security, with ten one-time recovery codes. Sign-in asks for a code after your password, Google, or GitHub. See Two-step verification.
  • TypeScript SDK 0.2.0. upload() for one or many files with progress and a stable link in every result, replace() by asset ID, link, or bucket and key, signed-link helpers, revision helpers, collections, and a next/image loader. Node.js 18 is now the minimum. See TypeScript SDK.
  • CLI and GitHub Action. @steadylink/cli uploads, replaces, and prints links from a terminal or CI job. The GitHub Action publishes release files and keeps their download links. See CLI and GitHub Action.
  • More free storage and delivery. The Free plan now includes 10 GB of storage and 50 GB of delivery per month.
  • Undo for deletes. Deleting files in the dashboard shows progress in a bottom activity bar, with an undo option.
  • Dashboard updates. A first-run checklist replaces the forced onboarding, links appear right after upload, widget uploads have a review queue, and paid plan checkout works from the dashboard again.

September 2026#

Analytics and conversions, September 27#

  • Traffic sources. Analytics and file details now show where delivery traffic comes from: search engines, social sites, other websites, tagged links (ref or utm_source), link previews, and direct visits.
  • Redesigned dashboard. A new layout and design across the dashboard, with fixes for an analytics error and for file previews that failed to load.
  • PDF to images converts every page, not only the first.
  • Clearing finished conversions. Delete and Clear completed now remove finished conversions.
  • More reliable malware scanning. Scan time limits scale with file size, and scans wait for the scanner to be ready instead of failing, so large files are less likely to end with a scan error.
  • HEIC images that could not be decoded before now fall back to a second decoder.

August 2026#

Dashboard and sharing fixes, August 27#

  • The file browser is more compact and paginated, and dashboard search covers the whole workspace.
  • Copied file links respect privacy: copying a private file's link creates a signed link instead of a link that would return 403.
  • Fixes for replacement routing, thumbnails, previews, analytics, and migration feedback.

Workflows, sign-in, and sharing, August 22#

  • Replacement requests and scheduled revisions. Ask someone outside your workspace for a new version of one file, review it, and publish it now or at a scheduled time, with an optional rollback. See Replacement requests.
  • Asset request forms. Collect several requested files through one expiring link. See Asset requests.
  • Website migration. Scan a public site, review its media, and import selected files into a folder, with a map from old URLs to new stable links. See Website migration.
  • Upload widgets and collections. Accept uploads from your own site, with review before anything is published, and share groups of files through branded portals. See Upload widget and Collections and portals.
  • Notifications. Choose which workspace events reach you and how. See Notifications.
  • Google and GitHub sign-in, profile names, and profile and workspace pictures.

Image showcase, August 21#

  • Add showcase to an image's delivery link to open it on a simple branded page instead of as a bare file.

Platform controls and SDKs, August 20#

  • Python SDK 0.1.0 (steadylink on PyPI) and TypeScript SDK 0.1.0 (@steadylink/sdk). See Python SDK.
  • Platform controls. Delivery policy by country, focal points, webhooks with Slack, Discord, and Teams destinations, and single sign-on with a required test before enforcement. See Platform API.
  • Workspace roles. Owner, admin, member, and viewer roles are enforced across the dashboard and API. See Workspaces and roles.

Plans, billing, and usage, August 17 to 19#

  • Paid plans with checkout and a subscription management portal.
  • Usage governance: storage, delivery, management API operations, and conversion credits are metered separately, with notifications at 50, 80, and 100 percent and an owner-chosen rule at the limit. See Usage and limits.
  • File conversions for uploads and stored workspace files, with a credit model and saved results. See File conversions.
  • Password reset by email.

Foundations, August 15 and 16#

  • Revocable signed links. Signed links are now named, listable grants that can be revoked before they expire. See Private links.
  • Workspaces and scoped API keys. Invitations, roles, and API keys limited to specific scopes.
  • Revocable sessions. Signed-in browsers can be listed and signed out.
  • Storage analytics from each bucket down to each file's current and retained revisions.
  • Reliable uploads. Upload finalization survives restarts and retries, and re-uploading to the same path always adds a revision to the existing file instead of replacing its identity.
  • Workspace themes and previews in the dashboard that do not count as delivery.
