Passkeys
Sign in to SteadyLink with Face ID, Touch ID, Windows Hello, your phone or a security key instead of a password, and manage the passkeys saved to your account.
A passkey lets you sign in with the face, fingerprint or PIN you already use on your device. There's no password to type, reuse or leak, and a passkey only works on steadylink.io, so a look-alike phishing site can't use it.
Passkeys are saved by your password manager or device, such as Apple Passwords, Google Password Manager, Windows Hello, 1Password or Bitwarden. Most of them sync, so a passkey you add on your laptop also works on your phone.
Add a passkey#
Open the security settings
In the dashboard, open Settings > Security and find Passkeys.
Choose Add a passkey
Your browser asks where to save it. Confirm with your fingerprint, face or PIN.
Rename it if you like
SteadyLink names the passkey after the place it was saved, such as Apple Passwords. Click the name to change it to something like Work laptop.
You can save up to 20 passkeys. Add one for each password manager or security key you use, so losing one device doesn't lock you out. SteadyLink emails you whenever a passkey is added or removed.
Sign in with a passkey#
On the sign-in page, choose Sign in with a passkey, or click the email field and pick your passkey from the suggestions. You don't need to enter your email first.
Signing in with a passkey skips the authenticator code even if two-step verification is on. Your device already checked two things: that you have it, and that it's you.
If you sign in with a password or with Google or GitHub and two-step verification is on, the second step also offers Use a passkey instead of typing a code.
Workspaces that require single sign-on still require it. A passkey signs you in to SteadyLink, but those workspaces only open after you sign in through your organization's identity provider.
Remove a passkey#
In Settings > Security, open the menu next to the passkey and choose Remove passkey. It stops working for SteadyLink right away. Your password manager may still list it, so you can delete it there too.
Troubleshooting#
- Your browser doesn't offer passkeys. Use a recent version of Chrome, Safari, Edge or Firefox. On older systems, a password and two-step verification still work.
- "This passkey isn't saved to a SteadyLink account." The passkey was removed from your account, or belongs to another service. Sign in another way and add it again.
- The prompt closes on its own. Sign-in requests expire after five minutes. Try again.
